Dangerous Christian - by Taffy Gooch

Many years ago the Lord revealed to me that I was a dangerous Christian. Of course immediately I thought, Wow, thanks God, I’m glad you noticed.  He was quick to rebuke me and show me that He wasn’t talking about the kind of dangerous I thought He was. He made it very clear that I was dangerous, because I was filling my self with just-enough Word to get by. I was going to church every Sunday, attending Wednesday Night Bible Study, and occasionally during the week I was listening to the Word from television and radio broadcasts. That was my extent of Bible study. Now, you may be thinking, That’s great Taffy! But the Lord revealed to me the reason I was just-making-it was because I didn’t have a clear understanding of what was rightfully mine.

I knew that I was God’s child. I had received Jesus into my heart when I was 8 years old. I grew up in the church. I have no horror stories to tell you about my sordid past. I was established in knowing that, there was no way anyone could ever convince me that there wasn’t a God and that I wasn’t going to Heaven. Satan knew that too! He knew that he had lost that battle. So he decided the next best thing was to keep me defeated, by keeping me in the dark about my inheritance. Don’t get me wrong. I was raised in a church that believed in healing and prosperity. However, not everyone that came up for prayer got healed, and not everyone that was in need prospered. I’m sure the scripture that says, Beloved I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers (3 John 2), was taught, but some how Satan stole that away from me, and my own Bible study was too lacking.  So I was content to accept the lie that God discriminated, and only helped those He wanted to help. In fact when I was in sixth grade my mother became very ill. She almost died. I can remember praying and repeating words over and over thinking that if I said them enough times God would finally hear me and make her well. Praise God! He did heal her, but it wasn’t because I said the magic number of prayers.

But let’s get back to that day that God spoke to my heart. He showed me that I was depending solely on others to tell me what the Word had to say and not spending any time in the Word myself. If your name was included in someone’s will and the time came for the will to be read, would you be willing to stay at home and let someone else just tell you what the will said concerning you? I’m sure you would be right there to find out what was yours, and what you should do to go about claiming it. Well, let me tell you, God has made a Covenant with you (Gal. 3:13,14, &29), and unless you read it you won’t be clear on what is yours, and how you can attain it. That’s what God revealed to me. He showed me the reason why some of His children seem to receive from Him, while others don’t was because the ones who receive are the ones who know what His Word says. And they refuse to let go until they see the end result.

I want to encourage you to stop being content with just-making-it into Heaven. God has so much more for you, (Deut. 28:1-14). In fact, it already belongs to you, (Luke 12:31-32). Get in the Word every day, (Prov. 4:20-22). Find out what is yours and receive. Then You will be a Dangerous Christian!
